I started sweeping floors in a family owned general sheet metal company in 1998, and slowly worked my way up the ranks. In 2004, I joined the Sheet Metal Workers Union apprenticeship, Local 55, and earned my journeyman card a few years later. With an interest in entrepreneurship I started a distillery in downtown Spokane and fabricated the entirety of the stainless steel equipment from the stills, fermentation tanks, sinks and lighted bar counter to the rusty I-beam wall, pub tables and bar stools. After a construction accident on a neighboring building left our building unsafe and unusable for the foreseeable future, my focus shifted and Modern Metalist was born.
